Why does it seem like all of my friends forgot about me?

Throughout life there will be times when you feel like life has knocked you down and hopefully you have an awesome support system by way of friends and family that will be there to help you to get back up. During this time you will be needing more out of your relationships than when you feel like you’re on top of the world. We have all been on both sides but the problem sometimes seems to lie with the ones who are on top of the world at times.

What do I mean? Well, there will ALWAYS be someone needing a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, someone to listen to their story over and over and someone to simply be “there”.  It is our responsibility as their friend or loved one to be there through the hard times especially. Hard times will always  reveal true friends; I’m sure we have learned that lesson the hard way. You see when people are happy, fulfilled and busy living their lives, it is so easy for them to “forget” about their friend(s) in need. Even though we have all been on the sadness and loneliness side, once we make way to the other side of the spectrum we almost seem to forget what it feels like to feel so alone, sad and confused. People get so lost in their own little worlds that they will forget to nourish their friendships. Think of your important friendships as flowers. Without sunshine, water and attention they will surely die.

I wanted to remind people that even though you may be walking on sunshine that your friend may be needing you. When  your friend is feeling so lost they may feel like a burden to reach out so it is on you to do so at times. People always want to be around the happy and upbeat person and there’s no blame in that because I believe happiness breeds more happiness, but when you’re sitting in the rain without an umbrella and people just keep walking by you; you can’t help but feel even worse about your situation, yourself and life.

We are all put through situations in order to learn something about ourselves. We will almost always learn more during the times of sorrow. I think we shouldn’t forget the pain that we have endured; I think we should always remember what it feels like so when someone near to us is feeling it we can relate. People experience pain in many different ways but pain is simply pain; it hurts just the same. Your true friends will always be there to celebrate with you but it’s the ones who will be there to wipe your tears no matter the cost that will deserve your attention when you are ready to celebrate again.

The moral of the story is that relationships should never be one sided. If you are there for someone in their time of need; they should be there for you. Period.
